Discover the ancient wonders of Xi’an, experience the unique blend of Han and Tibetan cultures in Xining, then a unique train trip will pass through the “Roof of the World” and take you to Lhasa, the city of sunshine. Stand in awe at Everest Base Camp, visit the stunning Tashilunpo Monastery in Shigatse, and enjoy Chengdu's famous pandas and cuisine at the end of the trip. This unforgettable journey offers a perfect blend of history, spirituality, and natural wonders.
Day 1: Arrive in Xi’an
Upon arrival of Xian, you will meet with our private guide and be transferred to hotel for check-in. After that, you can choose to explore the fascinating ancient capital city by your own, or enjoy a good rest at hotel after a long-time flight journey.
Day 2: Xian
This morning, we drive to visit one of the most iconic attractions in China, Terracotta Army. The life-sized terracotta soldiers and horses, discovered near the mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, are a testament to the ancient craftsmanship and military power of the Qin dynasty. It's an awe-inspiring sight that transports visitors back to ancient times. Back to the city, we continue to visit the Ancient City Wall, which has a history of over 600 years. You can walk or cycle along the wall to get a panoramic view of the city and appreciate the ancient defensive architecture. Go to take a walking tour of Muslim Street, a collective term for a Muslim community area renowned for its bustling atmosphere, rich history, and a wide variety of delicious food. Here we will visit a quiet grand mosque hidden in the alley and enter a traditional courtyard to enjoy the ancient traditional art form of China – Shadow Play. In the evening, we will visit the Grand Tang Dynasty Everbright City, a dazzling cultural and commercial district that recreates the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty with illuminated streets, historical performances, and immersive traditional experiences.
Day 3: Xian to Xining
In the morning, we take high-speed train to Xining. Meet with the guide and driver, we transfer to check in hotel. We start by visiting the magnificent Dongguan Grand Mosque to admire its Islamic architecture, then take a leisurely stroll through the scenic People's Park to enjoy its lush greenery and peaceful atmosphere, and finally end your day by indulging in delicious local snacks at the bustling night food market.
Day 4: Overnight Train to Lhasa
We take a visit to Beichan Temple, which offers a glimpse into Tibetan Buddhist serenity with its stunning cliffside grottoes, while the nearby Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum showcases the rich heritage and traditions of Tibetan life through fascinating exhibits. Leaving from Xining, we will take a overnight train to Lhasa, through the “Roof of the World,” a breathtaking expanse of rugged mountains, vast grasslands, and serene lakes.
Day 5: Arrive in Lhasa
We will arrive in Lhasa station at noon, meet with the guide and be transferred to hotel for check-in. After adapting to the high altitude of Tibet, we will go to Zong Jiao Lu Kang Park, from the tranquil ponds inside of which you can see the reflection of Patala Palace, you may also have the chance to see loca Tibetan people dancing or even practicing Tibetan opera.
Day 6: Lhasa
In the heart of Lhasa, the Potala Palace stands majestically on the Red Hill, a symbol of Tibetan architecture and spirituality. Nearby, Chakpori Hill offers a panoramic view of the city, allowing you to appreciate the grandeur of the palace from a distance. At the foot of the hill, the Jokhang Monastery is a sacred site for Tibetan Buddhists, where the air is filled with the fragrance of incense and the sound of chanting. Surrounding the monastery is the bustling Barkhor Street, a vibrant marketplace where you can wander through narrow alleys, explore traditional Tibetan shops, and experience the lively local culture.
Day 7: Lhasa
Begin your day with a visit to Norbulingka, the Tibetan Royal Garden, where you can wander through its lush green spaces, traditional pavilions, and ancient trees, immersing yourself in the tranquility and history of this former summer residence of the Dalai Lamas. Next, head to the Khawachen Tibetan Carpet and Wool Crafts Factory to witness the intricate craftsmanship of Tibetan carpets and wool products, learning about the traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations. In the afternoon, make your way to Sera Monastery, famous for its lively debates among monks. Watch as they engage in passionate discussions, clapping their hands and making dramatic gestures, a unique and fascinating display of Tibetan monastic culture. As evening falls, head to the night market at the Great Mosque of Lhasa, where the air is filled with the aroma of street food and the vibrant energy of vendors and shoppers, offering a perfect way to end your day with a taste of local flavors and culture.
Day 8: Lhasa to Shigatse
The last day at Lhasa starts at the bustling Morning Market, where you can experience the vibrant local life, sample fresh produce, and interact with friendly vendors. From there, head to the Local Tibetan Opera Training School to witness the unique and colorful world of Tibetan opera, observing students practicing traditional dance moves and vocal techniques. Afterward, embark on a scenic drive to Shigatse, taking in the breathtaking landscapes along the way. Upon arrival, explore the local market, filled with an array of goods and the aroma of local snacks, and then stroll down the pedestrian street, where you can enjoy the lively atmosphere, shop for souvenirs, and experience the authentic charm of Shigatse.
Day 9: Xegar
In the morning we will visit the renowned Tashilunpo Monastery in Shigatse, an important center of Tibetan Buddhism known for its stunning architecture, sacred relics, and the famous giant statue of Maitreya Buddha. Take your time to wander through the monastery’s courtyards and chapels, absorbing the spiritual atmosphere and observing the monks in their daily activities. Afterward, set off on a scenic drive to New Tingri (Xegar), passing through picturesque landscapes of rolling hills and vast grasslands. As you approach New Tingri, you’ll be greeted by the town’s modern yet charming atmosphere, where you can explore the local market, interact with the friendly locals, and perhaps enjoy a traditional Tibetan meal, making this a memorable part of your adventure.
Day 10: Overnight at EBC
Embark on an unforgettable journey as you drive towards the majestic Everest Base Camp, where the awe-inspiring sight of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, will take your breath away. Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Himalayas, with their snow-capped peaks and dramatic landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see. Upon arrival at the base camp, take a moment to soak in the grandeur and feel the sense of accomplishment of standing at the foot of this legendary mountain. Nearby, visit the historic Rongbuk Monastery, one of the highest monasteries in the world, perched dramatically against the backdrop of the towering Everest. Here, you can explore the ancient monastic buildings, learn about the spiritual significance of this sacred site, and perhaps even meet some of the resident monks who live in this remote and serene environment. The combination of natural beauty and spiritual heritage makes this a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Day 11: Gyangtse
Today we set off on a scenic drive to Gyangtse, a charming town known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. Upon arrival, visit the magnificent Palkhur Monastery, a prominent religious site in the region. Within the monastery, marvel at the exquisite murals and statues that adorn its halls, showcasing the intricate artistry of Tibetan craftsmanship. The highlight of your visit will be the Kumbum Stupa, also known as the “Hundred Thousand Buddha Pagoda.” This remarkable structure is adorned with thousands of Buddha statues and intricate carvings, making it a truly awe-inspiring sight. After exploring the monastery, head to Mt. Dzongri Ancient Castle, where you can take in panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The castle’s ruins offer a glimpse into the region’s storied past and provide a perfect spot for a leisurely walk or a moment of quiet reflection. Also, don't miss the night view after the lights are turned on.
Day 12: Tsedang
In the morning we drive to visit the stunning Yamdrok Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in Tibet, known for its vibrant turquoise waters and breathtaking mountain backdrop. Along the way, pass by the majestic Kurola Glacier, where you can stop to admire the awe-inspiring icy landscape and take in the grandeur of the towering peaks. Continue your journey to Tsedang, a region rich in cultural and historical significance. On the way, make a stop at Jiedexiu Town in Gongga County, famous for its traditional Tibetan craftsmanship. Here, visit a local “Bangdian” (Tibetan Apron) workshop, where you can witness the intricate weaving process of these colorful and culturally significant aprons, learn about their history, and perhaps even purchase a unique piece as a souvenir.
Day 13: Flight to Chengdu
We begin with a visit to the ancient Yumbulhahkang Palace, perched on a hilltop and offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This historic site, once the residence of the first Tibetan king, is steeped in legend and cultural significance, and its architecture and artifacts provide a fascinating glimpse into Tibet’s early history. Next, head to Samye Monastery, one of the most important and oldest monasteries in Tibet. Marvel at its unique architecture, which combines elements of Tibetan, Chinese, and Indian styles, and explore its vast complex, including the central temple, surrounding chapels, and the sacred circumambulation path. After immersing yourself in the spiritual atmosphere of Samye, it’s time to drive to the airport, where you’ll catch your flight to Chengdu. As you leave Tibet behind, you’ll carry with you the memories of its rich cultural heritage and the stunning natural beauty that make it such a unique and unforgettable destination.
Day 14: Departure from Chengdu
The last day tour will start with a visit to the Panda Base, where you can observe the adorable giant pandas in their natural habitat and learn about conservation efforts. Then, head to Wenshu Temple, a serene and historic Buddhist temple known for its tranquil atmosphere and beautiful architecture. Afterward, stroll through People’s Park, where you can enjoy the lush greenery and watch locals drinking tea or playing mahjong. Finally, explore Kuan Zhai Xiang Zi, a charming pedestrian street filled with unique shops, cafes, and street food vendors, offering a taste of Chengdu’s vibrant culture. Once you’ve soaked in all the sights and flavors, transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
